Gethsemane, Church of God in Christ, Center of Hope Ministries was founded in 1966 by Rev. A.L. Scott.
Originally, located at 3717 Benton, in the home of Rev. and Mrs. Scott, the early church was very small and included just a few faithful members. As the church began to grow, it moved to the basement of the home of Bro. and Sis. King, which was located just down the street at 3506 Benton Avenue.
The Lord continued to bless the little church and by the Summer of 1968, the membership had so outgrown the King's basement that it was forced to move once again. This time the church moved into it's first building, located at 2605 Prospect, which would be it's home for the next 27 years. Years later in 1995, God showed Rev. Scott a vision of yet a new church. This new church would be newer and bigger and would be one that Gethsemane
would own.
Within six months, Elder Scott's vision became a reality and on Palm Sunday 1996, Gethsemane held it's first services in it's new church home located at 2700 East 75th Street, at the corner of 75th and Montgall.
Sadly, not long after the move, Rev. Scott's health begin to fail and on December 18, 2001, he left his earthly home.
Being a man of great faith, he had already accepted his fate as God's will and before he passed had begin to plan for his succession; requesting that his nephew, Daryl Randolph, succeed him as pastor.
On November 24, 2002, Elder Daryl Randolph, Sr. was officially installed as pastor of Gethsemane, Church of God in Christ, Center of Hope Ministries by Bishop W.B. Henderson, after years of serving in the ministry in various capacities.
Gethsemane is thriving under the leadership of Elder Randolph and it continues to be a striving, growing and loving church.
